The Chelsea Cooperative Nursery School (CCNS) is a nursery school for children aged 3 & 4, located in Chelsea, Quebec. Established in 1964, Chelsea Co-op Nursery School has developed and evolved into a local community institution. We are a non-profit co-operative association, and a registered charity (106911076RR0001). Our school is financed solely through tuition, fundraising and private donations.
The success of our school is due to the outstanding support of the parent members, volunteer executive committee members, dedicated teachers and overwhelming commitment from local businesses and our municipality.
Our early childhood program is designed with the needs of the young child in mind. It is child centred and dictated by the interests of each particular class. Each day includes time for free play, art and science/math and sensory activities. You will often find us cooking with the children as this allows for the incorporation of math skills, lots of language, and sensory development. Circle time is often focused on language with lots of songs, stories and conversation. Social skill development is built into everything we do as we learn how to be a friend, solve conflicts and get our needs met in a group of 15 other little people!
The Senior and Afternoon classes have one day a week with extra gross motor time while all classes end their day with some gross motor play outside.
Classes run Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30. This class is made up of 16 three year old children, one French-speaking teacher, one English-speaking teacher and a daily duty parent. Together we learn to share, take turns, explore and have fun within a casual morning play schedule.
